Other Hints for Subject Heading Searching
- The subject heading search on the Basic Search screen uses Library of
Congress Subject Headings and all other subject headings which appear in the
database
- Omit accent marks and all other punctuation in the subject heading EXCEPT
subdivision marks.
- Use two hyphens (--) to separate a subdivision from a subject heading.
- Truncation on the right is assumed in a subject heading search.
- If you aren't sure of spelling and a search results in no matches:
- Try shortening the subject heading
- Try searching by author, title, or keyword.
- Because of the many cross-references provided, you may be presented with a
*Search Under... or *Search Also Under... cross-reference. You may redirect
your search to these alternative headings by selecting the entry.
